Feeling: Drained.
I joined a Prince's Trust Team Programe a couple of weeks ago, I was completely unaware of it and what they do, all I knew was it's for people 'like me' and my age. Over the last 6 months I've been trying quite hard, I thought I'd have a job by now, I assume I lack experience. So why not. Right? The idea of the programe is to build up my confidence, fill my CV with new experiences and take part in community/charity projects over 12 weeks.
The first week was much easier and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, it was a get to know eachother week. The others on my programe are from my town & are all having the same trouble as me - we can't get jobs, for a variety of reasons.
On Tuesday, we all went on a 4 day residential. We travelled to Essex to an outdoor team builder activity camp, I didn't know what to expect but it did get a bit crazy and stressful. We had ladder runs every morning at 9.30 - the worst way to wake up, climbing, orienteering and general times when we had to work together. The Thursday night we had to par-take in a search and rescue in a Forrest. We started off at half 10, trekking through muddy tracks to find our 'casualty' everyone got rather stressed & no one really listened to eachother which delayed finding our person(s) once we had we seemed to take a lot of time deciding who's carrying the stretcher and so on. This was obviously where our ladder run practice came in handy. We had to travel back on the route we came but however, also carrying a person between us, meaning we could all squish to one side. We had to go through the mudd. I, being the lucky person I am ended up getting both my trainers stuck multiple times, causing me to stumble out of them - squishing my socks into the mud too. Of course I wanted to prove myself and not give in to a iddy bit (quite a lot actually, everything below my ankles had vanished & was squelching with every step) of mud, so I put my feet back into my trainers and carried on. At one point I was actually constantly slipping on the spot like a Looney Tune!! I was rewarded back at camp by a few in my group for my triumphant, dedicated efforts to the team, so it was noted and appreciated even at 1.20am. This activity really made us see how we CAN become a team, hopfully for our community projects we will be a sucessful team!
